Scholarships

Here at the Community Foundation, we’re passionate about education. That’s why we offer over 100 scholarship opportunities to Whitley County students. Thanks to generous donors, we have scholarships available to students of every age, income level, academic ability, and athletic aim. For more information about these scholarships, please consult a guidance counselor at your school or call the Community Foundation of Whitley County at 260-244-5224.  All scholarships will be due April 15th unless otherwise noted in the scholarship description.

The Whitley County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship was established in 1998 by Lilly Endowment Inc. to help raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana. The scholarship covers full tuition and $900 per year for books and equipment for four years. To qualify you must meet the following:

  • Be a Whitley County resident for 12 months prior to the date of this application.
  • Graduate with diploma from an accredited Indiana High School and plan to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study at an accredited public or private college or university in Indiana.
  • Have financial need.
  • Demonstrate pride in the community, responsibility, perseverance, self-esteem, and the desire to contribute to Whitley County through work or volunteerism.

Please carefully review your completed application before submitting it to the Foundation to ensure that all required documents have been included.

When are scholarships due?

Most scholarships are due April 15 (even if that date falls on the weekend).  There are some exceptions, so please check on the application the due date.

When is the Lilly Endowment Scholarship available and due?

The Lilly Endowment Scholarship is available the first of August and is due mid September each year.  Please click the Lilly Endowment Link for updates.

What materials do I need for applying?

All scholarships are different, but most will need a transcript and a letter of recommendation.  Make sure you have the items in a .doc or .pdf form before applying.  Applications can’t be saved once started.  Saving all info on a Word Document and cutting and pasting helps protect from losing your information.

 

Community Foundation Announces 2020 Scholarship Winners

Diane R. Behrens Nursing Scholarship

Established by retired nurse Diane R. Behrens who was a nurse in Whitley County for more than 30 years. This award is given annually to a Whitley County resident who is a Christian, of good moral character, who is an associate or diploma degreed RN enrolled in an accredited BSN completion program in a college or university in the US or a junior or senior nursing student enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate nursing program in a college or university in the US.
